Giving a whole new meaning to Konvict Muzik

Tekashi 6ix9ine seems to have cemented himself a permanent spot in the headlines. This week, the rainbow-haired rapper you love to hate, made waves by sharing an Instagram video of himself and Akon previewing a track off 6ix9ine's upcoming new album.

There have been speculations about who the controversial rapper would first collaborate with since being released from prison. Rumblings of a track Nicki Minaj surfaced, but alas, it looks like we have our answer.

A remix of Akon's 2003 breakout single "Locked Up.” Tekashi captioned the video, letting his fans know that he’s “ON ALBUM MODE” and that it's going to be “CRAZYYYYYY.”

In the video you see Akon and 6ix9ine in a home studio set-up listening and rapping along to their latest concoction.

"Thinking ’bout the things that I did/Got me thinking, like, why the f*** I did that?/Got me wishing that I could take it all back," 6ix9ine croons while being hyped up by Akon. "Fighting with these demons/Barely even eating/Barely even sleeping/This s*** got me tweakin'/Fighting with my lawyers for a better offer/Just want to see my daughter.”

The collab doesn’t come as much of a shock. In an interview with DJ Whoo Kid, Akon said he planned on reaching out to Tekashi to hop on a record.

“Imma feature on that record, matter fact, I’m about to call Tekashi right now and say, 'Yo, T, what we doin’? I’m ‘bout to get on that record… That record probably be the hottest record that drop this year… Just think about all that surrounded this record. Even if you don’t like him. You gon’ get it, download it, out of curiosity.”

I mean he isn’t wrong… Of course Akon is referring to Tekashi’s very public scandal, labeling him a “snitch,” for cooperating with federal prosecutors against former associates, the Nine Trey Gangsta Blood gang, lessening his prison sentence. Akon even defended 6ix9ine in two noted instances in April of this year and November of last.

Tekashi frequently takes to social media to share his opinions and announcements, and has been teasing a follow-up single to "Gooba" for the last few weeks. However, last week, he took a pause, deciding to delay the release to this week, out of respect for George Floyd protests.
