Harry on the Big Screen

Singer makes his acting debut next weekend

July 11, 2017

Causing a lot of hype in the film world, Harry Styles is making his acting debut in Christopher Nolan's 'Dunkirk'. Unaware of how famous Styles was, Nolan cast the popstar in his new war film purely based on the "truthfulness and subtltey" he brought to his audition.

“I was new to Harry. I mean, I’d heard his name from my kids, but I wasn’t really familiar with him. So the truth is, I cast Harry because he fit the part wonderfully and truly earned a seat at the table," said Nolan.

Even Styles' co-star Mark Rylance says that Styles' popularity in the music world was only brought to his attention after telling his 11-year-old niece about the singer's casting.

“She was just more excited than anything I’ve ever done because I was going to be acting with Harry Styles. I went up in her estimation. I won the Harry," said Rylance.

Styles is playing a soldier, 'Alex', fighting for his life in the intense war film about the evacuation of Allied soldiers in the battle of Dunkirk. Styles said that while breaking into the film industry felt overwhelming at times, Nolan created an atmosphere that made him feel welcome and at ease.

“I’d say realizing the scale of the production was very overwhelming. I think whatever you imagine kind of a giant film set to be like, this was very ambitious even by those standards. You know the boats and the planes and the volume of bodies … it was pretty amazing," said Styles.
