Sacramento's Newest Hotel Now Open

The Sawyer, overlooking Golden 1 Center, opens today!

October 10, 2017

If you listened to my show at all in the 10 years or so leading up to Golden 1 Center's opening last year, you most likely heard me mention at some point how badly Sacramento needed a new downtown arena, and what a big difference such a place would make in revatilizing the city's downtown. Not only would this new arena bring lots of bigger names to our concert scene I said (definitely proven to be true in the last 12 months), but that many exciting new businesses (restaurants, hotels, nightlife) would soon be popping up in the areas surrounding the arena as well. Today's opening of The Sawyer, Sacramento's newest hotel, is exactly the type of thing to which I was referring.  You've probably seen it under construction in the past few months right next to Golden 1, and I'm happy to announce that it's now complete, and The Sawyer welcomes its first guests today!  They walked me around the hotel this morning so I could take some photos to share with you, and what I saw exceeded my lofty expectations.  The design of the lobby and the guest rooms is very open and modern.  Great amenities like free bike rentals for guests to get out and explore downtown and a wine social hour every afternoon are bound to please their guests visiting Sacramento.  For us locals, you're going to want to check out Revival at The Sawyer, the hotel's rooftop restaurant, bar & lounge, which also opens tonight.  I'm fairly certain this is going to turn into the next downtown hot spot.  Revival is on the 3rd floor of the hotel, adjacent to the hotel pool, and on a balcony looking directly down at Golden 1 Center.  It immediately becomes one of the most picturesque locations in the city.  The restaurant will be open at 5:00pm on Wednesdays through Saturdays (other days as well if there's a Kings game or a concert), and transform into a night club around 9:00pm.   You think a few people might make the few steps it takes to get from Golden 1 to Revival to enjoy an adult beverage after a game or concert?  Undoubtedly yes.  Also opening before the end of the year inside The Sawyer will be Echo & Rig, a new steakhouse, and Punch Bowl Social, an adult playground if you will featuring billiards, skee-ball, wall scrabble, bowling, pinball, you get the idea.  DOCO (short for Downtown Commons), the name for this new plaza immediately surrounding Golden 1 Center, is really starting to take shape, and this is still just the beginning.  Sacramento is growing up right before our very eyes, my friends, and I couldn't be more excited!  Scroll down to see some of my pictures of The Sawyer.
