One Florida Sheriff Has BANNED His Employees From Wearing Masks

August 12, 2020

One Florida sheriff has made the controversial decision to ban his employees from wearing masks, with certain exceptions.

According to PEOPLE, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods issued an order banning his deputies and anyone representing his office from wearing a mask while on the job.

In a statement, Woods said, "We can debate and argue all day of why and why not...The fact is, the amount of professionals that give the reason why we should, I can find the exact same amount of professionals that say why we shouldn't. Since the beginning of this pandemic the operation of this office has not changed and no wearing of masks has been put in place."

Woods did not name drop the "professionals" he was referencing.

Under the order which he says is "no longer a debate," Woods says there are certain exceptions to his no mask rule. Officers working at the courthouse, jail, public schools, hospitals, and while dealing with people who are suspected of having COVID-19 or have a high risk of complications from the virus must wear a mask. Anyone not in those exceptional circumstances will not wear a mask.

"As for special details and/or any special events (paid or not), masks will not be worn," said Woods. "Effective immediately the entity that has requested and has hired a deputy for a special detail wil be given clearn instruction by Darian Tucker at the time of their written request that masks will not be worn (unless one of the exceptions above applies). In addition, if you are the special detail deputy you will again advice the contact person that a mask will not be worn by you."

How do you feel about this? I'm absolutely appalled, and I personally believe this is completely irresponsible and disrespectful towards human beings. Masks should be worn. (Just my opinion.)
