I think most people are planning to do Halloween a little differently this year because of covid, and what a better way to have fun responsibly than to go for a little nature walk?

In a Facebook Event, the Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael says it's throwing its first-ever Owl-O-Ween event on Saturday, October 24, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is an educational guided hike with multiple Halloween-style stations along the way with exhibitors set up throughout the replica Nisenan Maidu village. Guests will learn all about spooky creatures in the wild and get to meet live animals like bats, owls, snakes, and more.

Safety is their number one priority, so a few rules will be put in place. Masks must be worn during the event (in addition to any Halloween masks, as those are NOT a replacement for masks to slow the spread of COVID-19). Also, pre-registration is required if you plan to attend because hikes are scheduled in intervals, only able to hold a maximum of two households of five per group.

There will not be candy at the event, but there'll be plenty of fresh air and nature!

You can register a household of up to five people for $40 here. RSVP to the Facebook Event here
